The Sir Nigel Gresley Junior Volunteers - The "007 Gang"
The "007 Gang" of the Junior Volunteers Scheme
provides volunteering opportunities for young members, aged 13 to 16 (see note
below) who are keen to learn more about the operation of Sir Nigel
Gresley. The scheme is focused on introducing young volunteers to the
engineering and leadership skills necessary to maintain our locomotive in the
21st century and beyond. Work is often dirty and tiring but also rewarding and
The "007 Gang" meets once or twice a month on a
Saturday. The members can also take part in the North Eastern Locomotive
Preservation Group (NELPG) (membership required) wherever NELPG's
Locomotives may be located and the NYMR Junior Volunteers on the North
Yorkshire Moors Railway if they are NYMR members.
The location of each "007 Gang" meet may vary
depending on the location of 60007 at the time; typical locations are the
National Railway Museum workshop in York or the North Yorkshire Moors Railway
depot at Grosmont. Safety training will be given when joining the group.
Members will be expected to bring appropriate workshop clothing including
safety footwear and overalls but other safety equipment will be provided as
